Sorry for the late match report but there were too many highlights to skip over this one. With the sting of  losing to the Farum Cats still fresh in the minds of each and every Mauler the 24th of May was shaping up to be a much anticipated event. The weather forecasts all week had been bleak to say the least and Danny was well aware that his tent making skills could come in handy yet again. Morning of the match was overcast but by midday the sun had burnt through the cloud and presented us with perfect conditions for Aussie rules on a fine looking, freshly mowed ground at Limhamnsfältet. Helsingborg Saints and North Copenhagen Barracudas both made trip to Malmö and were keen for wins as much as we were. The first match saw the Saints take on the Maulers and as usual against the saints the first quarter was the toughest with 1st quarter score 2.1.13  to 1.0. 6 in favour of the Maulers. But that was about as much resistance as the saints could manage on the scoreboard with the Maulers keeping them goalless in the 2nd, completely scoreless in the 3rd and then only 1 more goal in the final quarter with the scoreline ending up  8.7.55   to   2.1.13. Goal scorers for the Maulers were Wayne Schuck 3.1 , Tim Lindgren 2.0 , Daniel McClaer 1.2 , Daniel Scotford 1 , Max Kensell 1 (first Dafl goal) and Simon Ward winding up the tail end with 4 behinds. Christer ” Kryddan” Hjelm celebrated his 50th game for the Saints, well done old chap, I believe he is also the second oldest current DAFL player. Other highlights included Wayne Schuck trying to Specy everything that moved including a not to impressed Kevin Navarro. All the Maulers were fired up for this match and it showed. Well done to our younger crew aswell, Siggy Kristiansen, Tim Lindgren and Justin Lundgren, everyone is grateful to have some young fast legs out there.

We played the 2nd match against North Copenhagen Barras and rumour had it there were a few aussies to be aware of. The first quarter was a reasonable contest with the Barras showing they could move the ball forward but couldn’t get a clean shot at goal. By the second quarter it was obvious which way the match was going with the Barras still scoreless at half time and the Maulers racking up 5.4.34 by the half time siren. It was Maulers footy at its best with every position doing there job and functioning well, especially when entering the half forward line with Ben Polmear and Simon Ward leading hard, marking, and being rewarded with goals. 3rd quarter saw the trend continue with the Barras only able to register 1 behind compared to a Maulers total of 63. Wayne Schuck continued on his speccy spree  and succeeded to frustrate the Barras back line. The 4th quarter was finally time for the Barras to get a goal on the board but it was all too late with the final scoreline being Maulers 13.9.87 to the Barras 1.1.7. Goal scorers were Wayne Schuck 5.1 , Kevin Dunne 3.2 , Simon Ward 2.0 , Ben Polmear 1.0 , Ryan Davidson 1.0 . Highlights, Justin Lundgren rucking like a champ, Kevin Dunne on his DAFL debut fisting a goal through Gaelic style from point blank range when he had plenty of time to kick and leaving the Barras well confused and then going on to kick 3 fantastic goals! Simon Ward bending a goal in from the sideline after the siren, Daniel Scotford spending a whole quarter in the forward line and Fabian Rundbäck proving he is also a worthy backman.

3rd game saw the Saints and Barras duel it out for a much wanted win but after a super close match and some scoreboard confusion at the end the Saints came away with the win 5.9.39 to 5.5.35. One good thing about the 3 and 4 game format being one can play footy then enjoy a few beers and a bbq while watching someone else go for it. Thanks to all involved!!!
